The purpose of the NNF program, Assistance Listing 10.210, is to provide funding to support new graduate (master’s, DVM, or doctoral) student training and completion of degree programs to develop human capital to participate in meeting the mission of the USDA to increase the pipeline of domestic agricultural students. The NNF program offers funding for eligible full-time students pursuing graduate studies at the master’s, DVM, or doctoral levels within the food and agricultural sciences. The NNF program awards institutional grants to offer funding for eligible full-time students pursuing graduate studies at the master’s, DVM, and/or doctoral levels within the food and agricultural sciences. Fellows must be new graduate students (‘new’ is defined in Part III A); and citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States. Awards made by the NNF program are specifically intended to support graduate programs that engage outstanding students who are citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States of America to pursue and complete their degrees in areas where there is a need for the development of scientific and professional expertise in the food and agricultural sciences. NNF awards invest in graduate training and relevant experiential learning for individuals who demonstrate their potential to successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the USDA. - Master’s – $78,000 per Fellow, composed of annual amounts of
$25,000 salary/stipend and $14,000 institutional allowance. Maximum fellowship support is two years.
DVM or Doctoral – $141,000 per Fellow, composed of annual amounts of $31,000 salary/stipend and $16,000 institutional allowance. Maximum fellowship support is three years.
Institutional allowance is provided in lieu of indirect costs and used to pay, in order of precedence: tuition and fees; fringe benefits; and supplies, travel, and publications directly allocable to the training.
The salary or stipend cannot be carried over from one year to the next.
Applicants may not request partial fellowships.
Cost sharing: no match required.
Duplicate or Multiple Submissions – There is no limit to the number of applications an eligible institution may submit; however, an institution may only receive support up to a maximum of $1,410,000 in cumulative award totals for this award competition. Proposals submitted in response to this NOFO must differ substantively in scope and objectives from previously funded NNF projects in the last five years in which this cycle’s Project Director (PD) substantively participated. In summary, NNF will not extend existing NNF awards or recycle previously funded awards. |
