The Gretener-Thürlemann Prize honors outstanding scientists for foundational and pioneering research of societal benefit. The Prize is awarded by the University of Zurich and rotates annually between the following four areas of research: Translational/Clinical Research in Medicine; Basic Research in Medicine; Chemistry; and Physics. The 2026 call will be in the field of Chemistry. In leiu of a the standard limited submission package, please submit the following documents:
- The completed limited submission cover page.
- A draft of
a nomination letter (maximum 3 pages) explicitly stating why the nominated candidate(s) meet(s) the award criterion of "fundamental, groundbreaking research of societal benefit" in the field of CHEMISTRY.
A maximum of 3 publications that illustrate the nature and excellence of the candidate's research. Please include the full text of the publication, not just the citation.
A short curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) of the nominated candidate(s). For group nominations, please include a CV for each nominee.
A list of other scientists who, in addition to the nominee(s), are eligible for this award because they have made crucial contributions in collaboration with the nominee(s) or because they have independently made similar observations; please explain this in detail.
Award: 500,000 Swiss Francs. The prize money is transferred to the nominating institution for use in the research area of ??the researchers who received the prize.
The awardee(s) will be chosen by a prize committee under the lead of the University of Zurich and will be informed in summer 2026, with the Prize presented on November 5, 2026. The awardee must be physically present to receive the Prize.
