The Burroughs Wellcome Fund Climate + Health Excellence
(CHEX) Centers award is an institutional research and training opportunity that
aims to create new lines of research connecting climate change and human
health.





Program Objectives



  • Support
    institutions already moving towards excellence in climate change and health
    research


  • Foster
    interdisciplinary collaborations in basic, applied, and translational research


  • Develop
    innovative training programs for graduate and post-graduate students


  • Enhance
    public education or communication on climate and health issues


Project Requirements



  • Focus on a core interest linking climate change and
    human health that reflects the strengths of the institution


  • Include interdisciplinary research activities


  • Incorporate a training grant element (up to 20% of
    budget)


  • Feature either education-focused or
    communication-focused work on Climate + Health


Evaluation Criteria



  • Fit to program goals


  • Value added by BWF’s support


  • Innovation and creativity


  • Capacity to seed long-term faculty collaborations


  • Current resources in Climate + Health


  • Training plan quality
  • Institutional track record in interdisciplinary
    collaboration, research training and science communication/public outreach
